This work is composed of videos about three people of different generations in Taiwan and embroideries made from their handwriting.
Taiwan has had a complicated history, including rules by Japan and the Chinese Nationalist Party. I heard their personal stories and what they think now.
“Song” is one of the things that impressed me while I interacted with many Taiwanese of various generations in several works over the years. Songs for entertainment, songs for education, and songs for inspiring themselves and their friends. That brings back good memories, and also that couldn’t be erased from people’s memory even if they want to forget them.

Through interviews on people of differing generations in Taiwan, this work is an attempt to investigate the various layers of interpretation of history and nation building, including Japanese rule after the First Sino-Japanese War for 50 years, through individual stories, memories, values, and consciousness. The notes taken during the interviews are embroidered, and the accumulation of thread reflects the layer of meaning found in words and sewed actions and patterns.
